I
purchase a real coconut and shaved
coconut at our local grocery store.
Students get to use their 5 Senses with
both forms of coconut. Providing a real
life opportunity to touch coconut really
helps my students make connections to
our story!
We
taste real coconut! YUM!

We
make a class picture graph! Do You
Like Coconut? I had each student cut
out a traced circle to represent a
coconut.
Each
student gets to make their very own
Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom Tree! The
foam letters going up the coconut tree
are letters in the child's name.

We
make Counting Coconut books! Each
child gets to make a take home book! I
used a circle scrapbook paper puncher
and made the brown coconuts. The book
reads like this.
COUNTING COCONUTS
1 coconut on the coconut tree.
2 coconuts on the coconut tree.
3 coconuts on the coconut tree.
4 coconuts on the coconut tree.
5 coconuts on the coconut tree.
We
retell the story using our felt Chicka,
Chicka, Boom, Boom tree! I have the Chicka,
Chicka, Boom Boom CD. We sing the song as
well do the tree!
We
write the room wearing our Chicka Chicka
Boom Boom hats!

We
sequence the story using visuals!
Use
alphabet cereal or pasta to letter sort. Make
a pocket chart chant that goes like this:
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
___________ is in our room!
Allow
students to manipulate magnetic letters or
foam letters.
